By creating an account or using Visor, you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Visor. These terms apply when you use Visor to plan courses, track progress or rate courses.
Visor is not part of Rice University. It is an independent, unofficial planning tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Rice University. Rice University is not responsible for Visor, its information or your account. Rice's name and course information appear only to describe the courses you plan, and signing in with a Rice email does not make Visor a Rice service.
Plans, suggestions, course information and progress estimates are informational. They may be incomplete or outdated and do not guarantee that a course will be offered, that you can register, or that you will meet graduation requirements. Suggested tracks are options, not official degree requirements.
Check Rice's General Announcements, your DegreeWorks audit, and your academic advisor or the Office of the Registrar before making registration or graduation decisions. Visor does not register you for courses or change your official university record.
Your account and data
Use an account you control, keep your credentials and recovery key private, and take care on shared devices. A Rice email verification establishes mailbox control; it does not verify enrollment or university approval.
The Privacy Policy explains account storage, encrypted plan sync, device storage and sharing. Keep an exported backup of work you need. Losing both your password and recovery key can make your synced plan unrecoverable.
Do not access another person's account, bypass access controls, disrupt the service, automate abusive requests or use Visor for unlawful activity. The operator may suspend or close an account, or remove its content, if it breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk.
Content you choose to share
You retain your rights in your original content. By submitting it, you give Visor permission to store, process and display it to visitors as part of published rating summaries and written responses. This permission does not authorize selling your private plan.
Ratings are optional, use anonymous tokens and never include your grade; sharing the semester you took the course is a separate choice that starts off. See review privacy and withdrawal for the limits of anonymity.
Share only material you have permission to share. Do not post harassment, threats, impersonation, spam, deliberately misleading information or someone else's private information. Follow your course's academic-integrity rules; do not share restricted exams, answers or assignments.
Ratings and responses should address the course and the learning experience. They are other students' opinions; Visor does not endorse them.
Moderation and shared records
Signed-in Rice users can report written review responses; three distinct reporters can hide a response pending moderation. Written course and teacher responses are independent and optional. Do not include private identifying details, harassment or threats. The operator may hide or remove content, or restrict rating, to address abuse or service operations. A report does not establish wrongdoing, and no response time is guaranteed. Visor is not an emergency reporting service.
Shared records follow the retention and deletion practices in the Privacy Policy; remove reviews while you still have their tokens.
Service limits and changes
Visor is provided as is and as available. To the extent permitted by applicable law, no warranty is made about its accuracy, availability or fitness for your particular academic plans. You remain responsible for checking information before relying on it.
Features may change, be interrupted or be discontinued. These terms do not exclude rights or remedies that applicable law does not allow to be excluded. Course materials and university names remain the property of their respective owners; their use here does not imply endorsement.

Security and liability
Visor encrypts your plan in your browser before it is saved and takes reasonable steps to protect accounts, but no online service is completely secure. Visor could be hacked or breached, or lose data through attacks, mistakes, bugs or outages. Keep an exported backup of anything you need, and do not put information in Visor that you could not afford to have exposed. You use Visor at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Visor and the people who build and run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, academic outcomes such as grades, credit, registration or graduation timing, or lost opportunities, arising from or related to your use of Visor or your inability to use it. This includes losses caused by unauthorized access to Visor or your data, such as a hack or data breach, by wrong or outdated course or requirement information, and by interruptions, under any legal theory, including negligence, and even if the possibility of the loss was known.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the total liability of Visor and the people who build and run it for all claims relating to Visor is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Visor and the people who build and run it from claims, losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, arising from content you submit, your misuse of Visor, or your breach of these terms or the law.
